Brien is a native to Colorado who grew up skiing, camping, fly-fishing, and hunting throughout the state. He earned a degree in Government from the University of Redlands in 2010 and accepted a position with the Peace Corps in 2011 as a Rural Education Advisor. While in Zambia, Brien organized campaigns that addressed issues relating to education, HIV, malaria, food security, and gender equality. Knowing he would not get to see home for an extended period of time Brien packed an over-sized Colorado flag, a fly-rod, and a topo of his favorite wilderness area and fishing hole to remind him of home.
When Brien returned home to Colorado in 2013, he moved to Grand Junction to be closer to the outdoors and to work on behalf of those living with and affected by HIV across the Western Slope of Colorado. In his free time Brien enjoys being on the river and in the mountains with family and friends.
