protegete drive citizenshipProtégete is working diligently to engage Latino communities in the Civic Engagement process by helping a large number of eligible Lawful Permanent Residents take the very important step of becoming citizens. Access to legal services is the main barrier for individuals to begin the process of applying for citizenship – We believe that creating a workshop that provides the community with legal services for the process of naturalization is the path to increase the voices of our community.

There are many benefits of attaining citizenship now – including the ability to participate in the civic engagement process, potentially acquiring a US passport and voting in this year’s elections.

DSC01742Citizenship Now! is a state-wide campaign which builds naturalization capacity in the state of Colorado. Protégete is standing by to assist some of CO’s 90,000 eligible Lawful Permanent Residents to begin the naturalization process this year. There are 8 organizations who have built capacity to assist with screening, application assistance, and have partnered with immigration attorneys to oversee our workshops and provide legal review. This is an excellent opportunity to access free legal service.

Protégete: Our Air, Our Health will be hosting two citizenship workshops in the spring of 2016 along with many groups in Colorado in Denver, Arapahoe, and Adams County, where approximately 50,000 eligible permanent residents live. By hosting the workshops in these communities, we hope we can eliminate access barriers for people to travel far to get to a workshop.
