Dear Senator Roberts and Representative Lukens,

As you know, Colorado is facing the worst drought in 1,200 years. These drought conditions are threatening our very way of life here in Colorado and particularly the Western Slope. These challenges that we are facing are multi-generational and cannot be solved with quick fixes. That’s why I applaud your work on the passage of SB23-295, the Colorado River Drought Task Force.

Solving our drought crisis will be no easy feat, which is why bringing together a 17-member Drought Task Force to make recommendations to the legislature on how to proactively address drought and climate change on the Colorado River is so crucial. We desperately need the input of our Tribal Nations, agricultural producers, municipalities, Western Slope communities, environmental organizations, and water conservation districts if we want to ensure an equitable distribution of this most valuable resource in the future.

Again, thank you for your work on this most pressing issue. I look forward to seeing the results of the task force.
