Press Statement: On Day 1 President Biden makes climate action, immigration, and racial equity top priorities

DENVER — Shortly after he was inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States, President Joe Biden signed a series of executive orders, memorandums, and requests to agencies addressing the pandemic, economic relief, climate change, immigration, and racial equity. On Day 1, President Biden rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement, halted construction of the racist border wall, and shored up protections for DACA recipients.

Conservation Colorado Executive Director Kelly Nordini released the following statement in response to today’s historic actions:

“Building back better begins with climate action. I am thrilled that President Biden chose to begin his administration with decisive steps to put our climate, public health, and communities first.

“Executive action to heal our planet is just the beginning. Our pro-conservation federal leaders have an unprecedented opportunity to get our country back on track. They should seize it.

“Leadership and innovation to reduce pollution and tackle climate change is coming from the states and again having a federal partner is essential. We must work together to hit our climate targets, implement oil and gas reforms, lead on the goal of protecting 30 percent of our land and water over the next decade, and directly confront the impacts of environmental racism in our state.”
