Statement: Biden administration restores protections for National Monuments

DENVER — Today, the Biden administration announced that it will expand protections and honor Indigenous communities led by the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition. The announcement reverses the previous administration’s unprecedented, and largest rollback of public lands and cultural resource protections in history.

Conservation Colorado deputy director Jessica Goad released the following statement:

“We are thrilled that President Biden and his team are taking steps to restore protections for public lands and National Monuments. We urge our national leaders to make this restoration the first step in a new path forward on conserving 30 percent of America’s lands by 2030 and for co-management of public lands and resources with Native American Tribes who have stewarded and called these lands home since time immemorial.”
