Conservation Colorado statement on IPCC report

Report underscores the need for federal; state-based climate action

DENVER — Today, the IPCC released its AR6 Climate Change 2021 report outlining the devastating effects of climate change now and into the future all around the world.

Conservation Colorado executive director Kelly Nordini released the following statement in response:

“The IPCC’s newest report confirms what Coloradans see with our own eyes: that dirty air pollution and climate change are already having a serious impact on our state and our health. Mudslides, drought, and — at one point this weekend — Denver having the dirtiest air in the world are a clear message that we must take immediate and bold action to cut pollution.

“Colorado can and must be a leader in the fight against climate change, and while we’ve made progress we are not yet on track to meet our state’s science-based pollution reduction targets. We must meet the moment and we urge Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper to champion bold climate action through reconciliation that puts us on a path to 100% clean energy, invests in communities of color that are hardest hit by climate change, and supports high-quality, good paying union jobs.”
