Next Generation Climate Leaders Advocacy Day is a multi-session leadership program from Conservation Colorado’s Climate Justice Leadership Academy for students in grades 9-12.

Participants build leadership and communication skills, connect with decision-makers and visit the Colorado State Capitol, where they speak directly with state legislators about the issues that matter to their communities.

Students in grades 9-12, high school educators, and/or organizations serving high school aged youth, with an adult supervisor. No prior experience with leadership, climate issues or public speaking is required.

We especially encourage applications from youth whose voices have historically been underrepresented, Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), immigrant communities LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities.

March 2027: State Capitol visit in Denver

• Understanding how public policy is developed and the ways students can influence decision-making processes
• Combing personal experiences and research to effectively advocate for climate justice
• Understanding current legislation and building skills to communicate about the issues and causes that matter to you
• Practicing storytelling and advocacy skills

Sessions can be led by Conservation Colorado staff or trained educators and may take place virtually or in person. Each school group receives at least one in-person visit. The Colorado State Capitol visit includes breakfast, lunch and transportation/lodging support.
