Our Mission

We work to protect Colorado’s climate, air, land, water and communities. Through organizing, advocacy and elections, we build political power that drives Colorado toward a better future. 

Our Work

Our work secures policies and elevates leaders that advance climate action and environmental justice. We help them do it, and hold them to it. We work for a Colorado where every community can breathe clean air, drink clean water, protect the landscapes we share and secure our climate future. And, where communities once burdened by environmental injustices lead the way forward.

It’s about rising to the climate emergency as we protect people and create a just society.

We know the strength of powerful special interests—and what it takes to challenge them.

The stakes are high. But the rewards are greater.

The future is worth the fight—for ourselves, our communities, and for generations of Coloradans to come.

Values We Uphold in Our Work

Conservation Colorado commits to practicing our values in our work to protect Colorado’s climate, air, land, water and communities. We are and will hold ourselves accountable to ensuring these values shape our behaviors, practices and decisions to further our mission to protect the environment. 

Advocacy is speaking up for what we believe in to influence those who have the power to make change. It means coming together to stand up to powerful interests and push for strong laws that protect our air, water, lands, communities and climate—now and for future generations.

Making an impact means achieving thoughtful and strategically crafted goals that benefit Colorado. We hold ourselves accountable to our ambitious vision through realistic actions, delivering on priorities that yield tangible and measurable results. We actively seek and listen to feedback, learning from both our successes and mistakes.
The most effective solutions to the climate crisis and the greatest threats to the environment come from uniting all people. We focus on communities most affected by environmental and systemic injustices, amplifying their voices to ensure they are at the forefront of change. By prioritizing their needs, we develop climate policies that advance our mission and foster effective organizational practices.
Just relationships foster collaboration, trust and mutual respect among individuals, communities, organizations and decision-makers. These relationships go beyond transactional interactions and prioritize long-term sustainability and collective well-being. We nurture empathy and solidarity across diverse backgrounds and experiences. By cultivating relationships rooted in justice, trust and respect, we can foster meaningful partnerships.
The best results come from the work of cohesive, high-functioning teams that leverage our individual strengths to achieve shared goals. We strive to be collaborative and reliable, inspiring others to succeed while committing to clear, open communication and transparency.

Our Family of Organizations

The Conservation Colorado family of organizations is composed of separate entities, each of which bring different tools to the work and allow us to move our state forward in different impactful ways.

Education

We educate, organize and build the community voices of Coloradans and leaders through the Conservation Colorado Education Fund.

Advocacy

We engage directly with decision makers at the State Capitol to win nationally-leading climate justice and conservation policies through Conservation Colorado.

Elections

Elections matter because leadership matters. Through the Conservation Colorado Victory Fund, our independent expenditure committee and our Action Funds which give directly to candidates, we win critical elections to ensure Colorado has pro-conservation state-elected leaders.

Land Acknowledgment

Conservation Colorado acknowledges that we live, work and learn on the traditional lands of the Ute, Cheyenne, Arapaho Peoples and 48 Tribal Nations with ties to Colorado. This land has been central to Indigenous cultural heritage, trade and healing for generations.

We honor the Elders—past, present and future—and recognize the painful history of displacement, genocide and policies that eroded Tribal sovereignty. These injustices persist today and require urgent action.

As Colorado’s largest environmental nonprofit, we are committed to dismantling colonial legacies, recognizing Indigenous knowledge and addressing environmental challenges. We honor and work with Indigenous communities through our political, policy and advocacy work, acknowledging their ongoing contributions and deep connections to the lands we now know as Colorado.
