Denver — Ahead of tonight’s planned 11 p.m. MT committee vote to move the Republican-led massive reconciliation bill to the House floor, Conservation Colorado released the following statement from Katie Belgard, Vice President of Programs:
“This extreme and reckless reconciliation bill would stop Colorado’s clean energy and pollution reduction progress in its tracks. The bill that Speaker Johnson is attempting to push through in the dead of night means higher gas and electricity costs for struggling families and businesses and more pollution in our communities. Since Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in 2022, this funding has helped launch more than 3,800 new jobs in Colorado and around $1.06 billion in clean energy and transportation investments. This bill also opens the door to selling off public lands, treating them as nothing more than assets on a balance sheet. Members of Congress who vote for this bill will have to explain to their constituents why they voted to cut good clean energy jobs, raise home energy costs and sell our public lands to fund tax cuts for billionaires.”
According to a report by Energy Innovation, repealing federal clean energy tax credits and funding could raise household energy costs in Colorado by nearly $180 per year and cost nearly 10,800 jobs in 2030.
